Taking Control of Web Access
Blocking specific websites can help maintain focus and productivity by eliminating digital distractions. It also enhances security by preventing access to sites known for malware, and strongly supports parental controls by restricting inappropriate material for children.
Adding a Website to the Block List
By default, HomeGuard's smart content filter automatically blocks websites hosting inappropriate content right after installation. However, you can explicitly choose to block *other* specific websites (like social media or gaming portals), or create an exclusive "whitelist" where only approved sites are accessible.
To add a rule, open the HomeGuard dashboard and go to "Monitoring Settings" >> "Websites". In the "Blocking" section:
URL Matching Rules
The blocking list accepts full domain names, partial names, or specific keywords to block across all URLs:
- Adding a Keyword (e.g.,
example): Any website with the word "example" anywhere in its URL path will be blocked. - Adding a Domain (e.g.,
example.com): The root domain "example.com" and all of its associated subdomains (like `mail.example.com` or `blog.example.com`) will be securely blocked. - Adding a Subdomain (e.g.,
subdomain.example.com): Only that specific subdomain is blocked; the primary domain will remain accessible.
